What does our kerb installation service include?
Every stage of the process is precisely planned and executed to ensure maximum strength and perfect appearance. Our price per linear meter is comprehensive and includes the following activities:
Geodetic tracing and leveling
We use a Bosch GRL 400 H rotary laser level to accurately determine the line and heights of the kerbs. We guarantee a precise slope of at least 1% for effective drainage to designated points (siphons, manholes, or green areas). This step is critical to prevent water retention and subsequent damage to the pavement.
Machine excavation for the base
With a mini-excavator, we excavate the kerb bed to a depth of 30-45 cm (depending on the kerb type and load) and a width sufficient for work. Mechanization allows for quick and clean execution, with excavated earth stored or transported away as agreed. This provides the necessary depth for a stable, frost-free base.
Laying geotextile
Before laying the crushed stone base, the bottom and walls of the excavation are covered with non-woven polypropylene geotextile with a density of at least 150 gr/sq.m. This membrane acts as a separation layer, preventing the mixing of fine soil particles with the drainage layer, preserving its characteristics and preventing future settlement.
Construction of a load-bearing crushed stone base
A layer of 15-25 cm of crushed stone with a fraction of 0-63 mm is laid over the geotextile. This layer is compacted in 10 cm lifts using a vibrating plate (compactor) until a compaction coefficient of 0.95 is reached. This creates a strong, uniform, and draining base that absorbs and distributes loads.
Preparation of semi-dry concrete
Semi-dry concrete class C16/20 or C20/25 is prepared on site or delivered, depending on the design load. This consistency allows for easy shaping of the kerb bed and precise leveling, while ensuring high initial strength after placement.
Kerb installation in concrete bed
Each individual kerb is placed manually on a pre-laid layer of 10-15 cm of fresh concrete. Using a rubber hammer and continuous level control, the elements are perfectly aligned with the tracing string. A standard joint of 5-10 mm is left between each two elements, which is subsequently filled.
Two-sided concrete haunching
After leveling, additional concrete is placed on both sides of the kerb base, forming a triangular support (haunch). This element is extremely important, as it locks the kerb in place and protects it from horizontal displacement or overturning under vehicle pressure or soil frost.
Backfilling and compaction
After the initial setting of the concrete (approximately 24 hours), the space behind the kerb is backfilled with excavated soil or crushed stone aggregate. The material is placed in layers and carefully compacted to avoid pressure on the fresh structure and restore ground density.
Kerb grouting
The joints between the kerbs are filled with an elastic, cementitious grouting compound such as Mapei Keracolor FF. This not only improves the visual finish but also prevents water penetration into the base and allows for slight thermal expansion of the elements without cracking. Grout is key to the longevity of the entire system.
Final cleaning and waste removal
Upon completion of all installation activities, the work site is thoroughly cleaned of concrete residues, soil, and packaging. All construction waste, including excess excavated soil (if agreed), is loaded and transported to a regulated landfill. The site is handed over in a fully completed and clean state.

3. Excavation Works

4. Base Preparation
Geotextile is placed at the bottom of the excavation, after which crushed stone (fraction 0-63 mm) is backfilled and compacted in layers until the design thickness (15-25 cm) is reached. Compaction with a vibrating plate to 95% Proctor creates a stable, frost-free, and draining base that eliminates the risk of future settlement.

5. Laying the Concrete Bed
A layer of 10 to 15 cm of semi-dry concrete class C20/25 is spread over the compacted crushed stone base. This layer is roughly shaped to the kerb profile and serves as a bed in which the elements will be 'embedded'. Its thickness is critical for the vertical stability of the structure.

6. Laying and Leveling of Kerbs
Each kerb is carefully placed on the concrete bed and gently tapped with a rubber hammer until its upper edge reaches the level of the taut string (marking). Verticality and horizontality are continuously monitored with a straightedge and level. This is the most delicate part of the process, requiring experience and precision.

7. Concrete Haunching
Immediately after arranging a specific section of kerbs, concrete is added to their front and back sides, forming a 'haunch'. This haunch rises to about 1/3 of the kerb's height and locks it firmly in place, providing resistance against horizontal forces from traffic or soil pressure.

8. Grouting and Finalization
After sufficient concrete hardening time (minimum 48-72 hours), the joints between the kerbs are cleaned and filled with an elastic grouting compound. Backfilling and compaction of the soil behind the kerb are performed, after which the entire area is cleaned. The site is ready for use and handed over with a protocol and a 15-year warranty.

Materials of Uncompromising Quality

Vibro-pressed concrete kerbs
We use two-layer vibro-pressed kerbs from leading manufacturers such as Semmelrock, Technocim, or Weber. They consist of a main load-bearing layer and a surface layer with high wear resistance and low water absorption (<6%). We offer standard road (18x35x50 cm) and garden (8x20x50 cm) sizes, with compressive strength exceeding 40 MPa, ensuring resistance to impact and weather conditions.
Concrete class C20/25 (B25)
For the kerb bed and haunches, we use C20/25 class concrete (according to BDS EN 206), prepared on site or delivered from a certified concrete plant. Its waterproofing class is W6 and frost resistance class is F150, making it ideal for external conditions in Bulgaria.
Crushed stone (base)

Non-woven geotextile
Under the crushed stone base, we always lay non-woven polypropylene (PP) geotextile with a density between 150 and 200 g/m². Its primary function is filtration and separation. It prevents soil particles from penetrating and 'clogging' the drainage layer of crushed stone, which would compromise its load-bearing capacity and lead to settlement of the structure over time.
Mapei Ultracolor Plus Grout
For filling the joints between the kerbs (width 5-10 mm), we use high-quality, fast-setting and drying cementitious grouting compound, modified with polymers, such as Mapei Ultracolor Plus. BioBlock® (anti-mould) and DropEffect® (water-repellent) technologies make it extremely resistant to atmospheric influences, freeze-thaw cycles, and pollution, retaining its colour over time.
Sika AnchorFix® Chemical Anchors
In specific cases, such as kerb installation on an existing reinforced concrete slab or when additional strengthening against extreme loads is required, we use a chemical anchoring system.
