What we deliver and which problem we solve

    What we deliver

Infra Remonti EOOD specialises in the complete process of pedestrian and vehicular block paving construction in the Varna, Burgas, Plovdiv, and Sofia regions. We execute projects for both private clients – yards, garden paths, pool areas, and parking spaces – and corporate/public entities – shopping centre car parks, pedestrian zones, park pathways, and approaches to administrative buildings. Our activities encompass all technological stages: from initial site visit, material selection consultation (vibro-pressed concrete pavers, clay pavers, natural stone) and paving design, to final compaction and cleaning. We work with professional machinery, including mini-excavators for precise excavation, laser levels to ensure perfect drainage slopes, and vibrating plates of varying weights (from 90 to 450 kg) to achieve optimal density of the load-bearing sub-base. For coastal areas like Varna and Burgas, we recommend and supply pavers with increased resistance to salts and moisture (according to EN 1338, freeze/thaw resistance with de-icing salts - Class 3) to ensure longevity in the aggressive marine environment. Our team is trained to work with various laying patterns – 'herringbone', linear, or modular – to achieve the desired aesthetic and structural integrity.

    Which problem we solve

The main problem we solve is the premature degradation of paved surfaces caused by improper sub-base preparation. Many pavements subside, form ruts, or become uneven after only a few seasons due to insufficient excavation depth, lack of geotextile, use of unsuitable aggregate fractions, or most importantly – insufficient layer compaction. This leads to water retention, which, when frozen, destroys the underlying structure. We prevent this by constructing a multi-layered, draining sub-base with thicknesses ranging from 25 cm for pedestrian zones to over 45 cm for areas with vehicular traffic, with each layer compacted with a vibrating plate to achieve 95-98% of Proctor density. Another common problem is weeds and ants penetrating through the joints. We solve this by, in addition to standard jointing with quartz sand, also offering the option of jointing with self-curing polymeric compounds (e.g., from GftK or Mapei), which create a strong yet permeable joint, eliminating vegetation and washout from rain. Improper drainage is a third critical problem, leading to puddles and moisture on building foundations. Our projects always include precise slope setting of a minimum of 1.5% with a laser level, directing water towards garden areas or specialised linear drains.

What does our block paving service include?

Every stage of the process is carried out with a focus on durability and precision, providing you with a surface that lasts for decades.

    Geodetic survey and planning

We use a rotary laser level to precisely determine levels and drainage slopes. We prepare an excavation plan and a paver laying scheme tailored to the architecture and future load. The slope is set at a minimum of 1.5% for effective surface water drainage.

    Machine excavation to design depth

We perform excavation to a depth of between 30 cm (for pedestrian walkways) and 50 cm (for vehicular traffic). The excavated soil is transported to a regulated landfill. This stage is critical for providing sufficient space for the load-bearing layers of the sub-base and removing weak soil layers.

    Geotextile installation

We lay non-woven geotextile (e.g., Polyfelt TS 20) with a density of 150-200 g/m² over the excavated surface. Its function is to separate the soil base from the aggregate materials, preventing their mixing, while allowing water to pass through and stabilising the sub-base.

    Construction of crushed stone sub-base

We lay a main load-bearing layer of crushed stone with a fraction of 0-63 mm and a thickness of 20-35 cm. The material is spread and compacted in layers of 10-15 cm with a heavy vibrating plate (>250 kg) until maximum settlement and stability are achieved. This is the backbone of your paving.

    Construction of levelling layer

Over the compacted load-bearing layer, we lay a second, levelling layer of crushed stone with a finer fraction of 0-31.5 mm (or 4-8 mm) and a thickness of about 5-10 cm. This is also precisely compacted to create an even and strong surface, ready for the sand bed.

    Laying of sand bed

We spread a layer of washed river or quarry sand with a fraction of 2-4 mm and a precise thickness of 3-5 cm. This layer is not compacted. It is levelled using special guide screeds to achieve a perfectly even surface on which the pavers will rest.

    Kerb installation

Before or during the paver laying, we install restraining kerbs (garden or road kerbs). These are placed on a semi-dry concrete base of class C16/20 and serve as a frame that prevents the paving from shifting sideways under load.

    Paver laying

The pavers are laid manually on the sand bed according to the pre-selected scheme. A uniform joint of 3-5 mm is maintained between individual elements. Work proceeds from the already laid area to avoid disturbing the sand bed. Precision at this stage determines the final aesthetics.

    Paving jointing

After laying, the joints are completely filled with dry quartz sand of fraction 0.3-1.0 mm or with a specialised polymeric jointing compound. Filling is done by repeated sweeping and subsequent compaction until the joints are fully filled.

    Final vibrating compaction

The entire newly laid surface is passed over with a vibrating plate (90-130 kg), equipped with a special rubber mat to avoid damaging the pavers. The vibrations settle the pavers into the sand bed and compact the sand in the joints, creating a strong, interlocked system.

Our 8-Step Block Paving Installation Process

We follow a proven technology, guaranteeing impeccable quality and durability for every surface we install.

    1. 1

Step 1: Site visit, consultation, and quotation

We start with a free on-site visit. We discuss your requirements for load, aesthetics, and budget. We measure the area, assess the terrain conditions, and access. Based on this, we advise you on the appropriate type, size, and thickness of pavers and kerbs. Within 24-48 hours, you receive a detailed quote with a breakdown of activities and materials.

    2. 2

Step 2: Surveying and excavation works

After accepting the quote, our team surveys (marks out) the paving area. We begin machine or manual excavation to the required depth (30-50 cm), constantly monitoring levels with a laser level. The excavated soil is loaded and transported away, leaving a clean and prepared base for the subsequent stages.

    3. 3

      Step 3: Geotextile and load-bearing sub-base installation

We lay a separating layer of geotextile over the formed earth bed. Immediately thereafter, the construction of the load-bearing sub-base begins. We deliver and spread crushed stone of fraction 0-63 mm in layers. Each 15 cm thick layer is compacted with a heavy vibrating plate until refusal, ensuring zero possibility of future settlement.

    4. 4

Step 4: Kerb installation and levelling layer

We install the concrete kerbs that will frame the paving. They are placed on a concrete base for maximum stability. Then we spread and compact an upper, levelling layer of finer aggregate (e.g., 0-31.5 mm), which serves for final levelling of the sub-base and preparation for the sand bed.

    5. 5

      Step 5: Sand bed preparation

Over the perfectly compacted and levelled sub-base, we spread a sand bed with a precise thickness of 3-4 cm. We use pre-installed metal guides (screeds) and an aluminium screed to level the sand to an absolutely even surface. This precise operation is crucial for the flatness of the final paving.

    6. 6

      Step 6: Paver laying

We begin laying the pavers, following the design approved by you. Each paver is carefully placed, tapped with a rubber hammer to adhere tightly to its neighbours and maintain a straight line. We leave a uniform joint of 3-5 mm, necessary for interlocking the system. We use a diamond disc cutter to shape pavers at edges and around obstacles.

    7. 7

Step 7: Jointing and initial compaction

Once all pavers are laid, the surface is cleaned, and the joints are abundantly filled with dry quartz sand. Using a broom, the sand is spread until the joints are completely filled. This is followed by initial vibrating with a light vibrating plate (with a rubber pad), which helps the sand compact into the joints.

    8. 8

Step 8: Final compaction and handover

We carry out additional filling of the joints with sand, if necessary. This is followed by a final, complete vibrating of the entire area. This process locks the pavers together, creating a monolithic and extremely strong pavement. The site is thoroughly cleaned and handed over to the client with the signing of a handover protocol and a written 15-year warranty.

    Materials that guarantee durability

Choosing the right components is just as important as the laying technology. We only work with proven materials.

    Vibro-pressed concrete pavers (Semmelrock, Technosimple)

We use two-layer vibro-pressed pavers from leading manufacturers. They consist of a load-bearing layer of concrete with a compressive strength class of C40/50 and a surface layer with high wear resistance and frost resistance. Thickness varies: 6 cm for pedestrian and light vehicles, 8 cm for more heavily trafficked car parks, and 10-12 cm for heavy-duty areas. Water absorption <6%, freeze/thaw resistance with de-icing salts - Class 3 (EN 1338).

    Clay pavers (Wienerberger Penter)

For projects with the highest requirements for aesthetics and durability, we offer clay pavers. Produced from clay fired at over 1100°C, they are extremely dense, with water absorption below 3-6% and enormous compressive strength (>80 MPa). Their colours are natural and do not fade over time. Ideal for luxury properties, squares, and restoration of historic sites.

    Non-woven geotextile (Polyfelt, Terram)

An essential element in all our paving. We lay polypropylene non-woven geotextile with a density of 150-250 g/m². Its primary role is separation – it prevents the mixing of fine soil particles with coarse ones from the load-bearing sub-base, preserving its drainage properties and protecting against subsidence in the long term. It also distributes loads.

    Aggregates for sub-base (certified quarries)

The quality of the sub-base directly depends on the aggregate materials. We use crushed stone from certified quarries with clearly defined fractions. For the load-bearing layer – 0-63 mm fraction, and for the levelling layer – 0-31.5 mm. The materials have optimal grading for achieving maximum density during compaction and excellent drainage.

Jointing materials (Quartz sand and polymeric compounds)

We standardly joint with washed and dried quartz sand with a fraction of 0.3-1.0 mm. For projects with high requirements, we offer polymeric, self-curing jointing compounds such as Mapei Mapestone PFS 2 or GftK VDW 850. These create a hard but elastic and permeable joint that eliminates weeds, withstands pressure washing, and is not washed away by rain.

    Concrete for kerbs (class C16/20)

Kerbs are installed on a bed and with a backrest of semi-dry concrete class C16/20 (B20). This concrete class provides the necessary strength to absorb lateral pressure from the paved area and thermal expansions, ensuring that the paving remains locked and does not 'creep' over time. It is mixed on-site or delivered from a batching plant.
